THE FINAL FINAL (NO REALLY) TGOC 2014 Kit List

This is IT the stuff going.

Mychael Dana - Loch Etive
(Seemed appropriate)

For those that don't like the music.
Press the OFF button
Philistines!!!!

This has been refined over the last couple of trips.
I would quite like to take the silHexPeak because I really like that tent, and it is awesome value now I have tweaked it.

BUT I have the TS, and it is bomber, and it is lighter by about 300g once I take into account everything.
So it is the TS despiote the BIG footprint.

That means AL and I will be fighting for the best TS spot.
But, since MY TS is older, and so am I, then he should bloody well look up to his elders and betters, and let me have it.

TAKE NOTE SLOMAN!

Of course that does imply we have to let Phil have first pick of everything.

Since NONE of that is going to happen, then.

GAME ON!!!!

And so we come to THE LIST!

In the lists an x in the column to the right means being carried.

If it is worn, it doesn't count as carried, and so shoes and poles do not count since they are ONLY carried on the train.
The Final Kit list runs at 26.76 lb
That does NOT include the Alpamayo.
This will be worn a lot of the time so I have not included it.
That is the point of the fluctuating weight bit below.
So at times this will go over 27lb, but others drop.
Also after the 1st meal and gas use etc it will drop.

The time it gets really bad is from Fort Augustus to Challybeate where I will have extra Cheese and Wine on board.

That is by my weighing of stuff I have NOT itemised the MEDICAL KIT, just given the total weight. NO-ONE has the same medical kit so just take what you need.

I have to take medication and strapping for knee, so my kit is quite high.

The actual carried weight will vary, depending upon weather, so the waterproofs may be carried.
On the other hand it may go down.
It certainly will go down from the start weight, because it is ONLY the at the start that we have to have 4 days food on board.

The rest of the time that will fluctuate.
It allows for carrying a bottle of water, but really a lot of the time this is NOT necessary since there are abundant streams.

I could probably leave the Swayer Mini Filter behind, having never used it, BUT that would be the time that I really need it eh..

OK. the super "Ultra Light Purists" will take far less.

You can spot them because they have the really miserable hang dog expression.

Good on them, well done.

I need all this stuff OK!!
I want all this stuff
I am happy carrying all this stuff

This is the lowest it has ever been and I have survived until now, so move on guys ok......

Well I think that is it.

I am NOT a big look at Kit Lists Fan.

Actually I never look at other kit lists.
BUT some folk like this sort of stuff so for those, here it is.

In the lists

x       =   Carried
w      = Worn
blank = not carried but may be in hands etc like the poles

In the summary to the right of each section on grams

Top box      =  total weight
Bottom box =  Carried Weight

I have taken on board some of the ideas from my last post.
Thanks for all suggestions.
Certainly the camera was just way to heavy for what I would so, I thing I have an excellent compromise now.

I will continue to take the brilliant NX10 on shorter trips, but for 2 weeks it is just too heavy and the TZ 40
(yes I do like the TZ 60, but it isn't worth all the extra money for just a couple of features,
and I do not need to take long range pictures of people having a crap.
I mention that for those bastards I know who did that to me a few years ago)

So, the final kit list.

Should help the knee

Now all I have to do is a shed load of bloody work before I can go, to earn the money to pay for the trip

But at least for now I am over the MAN FLU!

Now all I have to do is stick to this.
Normally I plan on 28 to 29 lb and end up with 30+

RESIST, RESIST!

  1. Comprehensive, Sir!
But you seem to have forgotten to put an 'x' against your PHD Alpamayo smock - so I think you should add 485g to you carried total?
    Have I read that correctly?

    ReplyDelete
  2. But I am wearing it. So it will rarely be carried and if I am not wearing it I will probably be wearing the fleece. And if I am wearing both, the weight goes down. So no, it doesn't count.
And.. If it is very warm, I can post something back. But I did forget the Ron Hills I think.
    Oh bugger....

  3. Nah. We will be carrying our waterproofs because the sun will be well out.

Bad news on the weight of your 250gr of gas. You need to take that gas in a metal cartridge so that pushes its weight up to about 380gr innit.

  4. Good decision on the camera. I might trade my 2 in for a TZ40 later in the year.
